It is our goal that you feel welcome and comfortable
in our office. When we built our new office four years ago,
it was our desire to provide a facility that created an open
and relaxed atmosphere. We also wanted a facility that would
allow us to incorporate the latest, state-of-the-art dental
technology and techniques now and for years to come as advances
in dentistry beome available.
To accomplish these goals we sought the help of Dr. Michael
Unthank, a registered professional architect and dentist from
Lincoln, Nebraska. We met Dr. Unthank in Dallas at a course
he teaches on dental office design. His knowledge, experience,
and conservative approach to dental office design convinced
us that we needed his help to accomplish our goals for a new
facility. We have been so pleased with the result of Dr. Unthank's
planning and design. There are many features and details in
our office for your comfort and safety. We would like to point
out some of these which we hope you have noticed. |

We are easily accessible for handicapped patients.
Our front door is only a short distance from the handicapped
parking. Our treatment rooms are designed for access by wheelchair.
The patient bathroom is also equipped and easily accessible
for the handicapped patient. |
Large windows are a part of our design
to allow for natural lighting. Natural lighting is important
for cosmetic dentistry in choosing tooth colors and shades.
Large windows also allow our patients to enjoy the view
of the trees, flowers, creek, and walking trail surrounding
our office. |

|
Our consultation room is designed for the
patient and other family members to have a comfortable and
quiet place to sit down together with Dr. Hankins and discuss
their oral health and treatment options. |
| Our treatment rooms are
equipped with overhead TVs with a choice of cable programs
or movies. These serve a duel purpose, as the TVs also act
as a viewing monitor for the intraoral camera. This camera,
used by Dr. Hankins during an examination, allows the patient
to see what Dr. Hankins sees as he examines the teeth, gums,
and soft tissue. With the use of this intraoral camera,
the patient can see for themselves the conditions and health
of their mouth. This camera can also print a photo of the
conditions found during the examination, which is very useful
for comparison at future exams and for documentation to
the patient's insurance companies.

Children especially enjoy the TVs. They
can view their favorite cartoon or movie. We have movies
available or they can bring their own. We welcome the parents
to accompany their children throughout their vistit with
us. Our treatment rooms are designed and equippped with
a comfortable place for Mom or Dad.
For your comfort, we also have available warm blankets,
soft neck-support pillows, and nitrous oxide (laughing gas).
We also have a variety of refreshments available: coffee,
iced tea, and soft drinks. For those long appointments,
we have snacks available or we will bring you a milk shake
or smoothy from your favorite restaurant. |
 |
|
Surfaces are disinfected after every patient with FDA-approved chemicals. Disposable barriers are placed covering the patient chair, lights, and other surfaces in the treatment room. New shields are placed after each patient.
|
|
The water supply for each treatment chair
is bottled distilled water replenished daily and dispensed
via an enclosed system. Our water lines are treated daily
to prevent bacteria build-up. |
|
All waste disposal is under-counter and
accessed through minimal 4-inch openings. We comply with hazardous
waste disposal as directed by federal and state laws and use
disposables whereever necessary. All sharp hazardous waste
is safely handled and stored until removed from the premises
by a licensed hazardous waste disposal company. |
|
|
For your safety, our sterilization room is
specially designed and built to eliminate cross-contamination
between patients. All contaminated instruments are processed
on one side of the room by ultrasonic cleaning, then packaged,
sealed, and autoclaved. Sterile instruments removed from the
autoclave on the other side of the room are then stored in
an enclosed cabinet until they are taken to a treatment room
for use. |
